Washington, D.C. — NSBA today named David Ickert, vice president of finance at Air Tractor, Inc. in Olney, Texas, the 2017 Lewis Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year. The award recognizes small-business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for policies to improve America’s small-business community.

“I have worked with David for many years, and not only is he is focused and determined to achieve policy wins for small business, he is generous with his time and expertise,” stated NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken. “David Ickert is proof that one person actually can make a difference.”

Ickert has testified numerous times before the House and Senate, spoke at several roundtables for Congressional staff, met with President Barack Obama on key export issues, and currently serves on the U.S. Department of Commerce Industry Trade Advisory Committee. He has authored numerous editorials in local, regional and national publications and has been featured on several national tv news programs.

In addition to honoring Ickert, NSBA also recognized the following small-business owners for their excellence in advocating on small-business issues: Curtis Richardson, C&J Electrical Services, LLC; Deborah Rutledge, Rutledge Group, Inc.; Michael Stanek, Hunt Imaging, LLC; and Diane Sumpter, DESA, Inc.

Ickert has served as chair for NSBA and its international trade arm, the Small Business Exporters Association. He has been a passionate advocate for exporting and has made positive strides in bringing more small businesses into the exporting arena.

“Because of David Ickert’s tireless efforts, small-business exporters for years to come will have access to export finance that can help them start and expand their export operations,” stated NSBA Chair Pedro Alfonso of Dynamic Concepts, Inc. in Washington, D.C. “On behalf of NSBA, I am honored to give him this well-deserved recognition.”
