Tax Reform Webinar Wrap-Up

April 25, 2018

Last week, NSBA joined our corporate partner Nationwide in hosting a webinar on tax reform and what it means for your business.  The webinar featured NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken discussing the recently-released NSBA 2018 Taxation Survey and Nationwide Technical Director of the Advanced Consulting Group Anne Meagher, J.D., CLU®, ChFC® who got into the details of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

In his comments, McCracken underscored the fact that tax complexity continues to be a bigger problem for small businesses than the actual cost of federal taxes. He also noted that there was a great deal of confusion on the part of small-business owners over how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will impact their firms.

Moving on to the nitty-gritty of the new law, Meagher outlined the key provisions impacting individuals and businesses as well as the changes to the estate and gift tax and individual and group retirement plans. She reiterated the temporary nature of many of the provisions impacting small firms and elaborated on the qualified business income deduction, expensing provisions, and various other personal and business deductions under the new law.
