Advocate Award Noms Due Friday, July 8

The deadline for NSBA’s 2011 Lewis I. Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award is this Friday, July 8. All candidates mus have their completed nomination packet sent to the NSBA office no later than July 8. This award recognizes small-business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for the small-business community. 

NSBA will choose five finalists and one award winner to recognize in September in conjunction with the Washington Presentation, Sept. 14 and 15. Qualifications include: a demonstrated commitment to small-business advocacy above and beyond policies that specifically impact their own business or industry; a proven history of volunteer efforts to advance and improve the overall small-business community; success in advocating for pro-small business policies; and success and growth as a small-business owner.

Unlike many awards, this nomination process is relatively easy and shouldn’t take more than 2 to 3 hours to complete. Additionally the award winner and finalists are all the subject of a good deal of media coverage surrounding the award.

As mentioned above, award winners will be recognized in conjunction with the NSBA Washington Presentaion, being held on Sept. 14 and 15 in Washington, D.C. During the Washington Presentation, small-business owners convene in Washington, D.C. to get the latest updates from policy experts, hear from White House officials, and have time to network with each other. The following day, participants are treated to a Congressional Breakfast where various lawmakers address the group, and then set out for meetings with their Representative and Senators.
