Washington, D.C. — On Monday, June 10, Brian Morales, President of Pro-Cal Electrical Contracting in Vista, California was recognized as a finalist for the National Small Business Association’s 2019 Lewis Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award. The honor was given in conjunction with NSBA’s annual event, the Washington Presentation, and recognizes small-business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for policies to improve America’s small-business community.

“Brian Morales has a keen understanding for how to have his voice heard—and he uses his voice to increase and expand opportunities for America’s small businesses,” stated NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken. “Not only has Brian utilized his business to spread awareness of small-business issues, he has taken advantage of every opportunity to educate lawmakers and candidates on small business.”

Morales has dedicated a great deal of time to influencing policy in favor of America’s small businesses. He routinely meets with lawmakers in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. and has hosted many state and federal lawmakers at his offices to give them a first-hand look into what helping a small business would look like. Morales has testified before Congress, calling for passage of the Small Business Runway Extension Act of 2018 to ease regulatory burdens on new start-up businesses.

His efforts have resulted in legislation passing the House that would improve federal contracting and ensure proper recourse for subcontractors who aren’t paid promptly and ensuring small-business set-asides and contracts are being reported correctly.

“Brian has successfully blended his business and his advocacy work—and it’s proved to be of great benefit to all small businesses,” stated NSBA Board Chair Sharon Toerek of Toerek Law. “His dedication to small-business advocacy at every turn makes him an outstanding advocate.”

In addition to honoring Morales, NSBA also recognized Calvin Mills, Jr., of CMC Technology Solutions and SLT Technology, Inc in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as the overall award winner and finalists Richard Fleming of State Tax Group, LLC in Farmers Branch, Texas, and Joyonna Gamble-George of SciX, LLC in Lutz, Florida.
