What to Expect

 

Thank you for registering for the National Small Business Association’s 2022 Washington Presentation. We have a great deal of information for you in this e-mail, so please be sure to keep this handy.

The Washington Presentation will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C., just steps from the White House. If requested on the registration form, NSBA will provide your rooming information to the JW Marriott, and they will confirm with you directly your room request. You should receive something from them by mid-August. If you have any questions regarding your registration or hotel reservation, please contact Son Thach at 202-552-2907.

This annual event is designed to bring our members to Washington, D.C. to discuss policy, hear from issue experts and lobby on behalf of NSBA on important issues for small businesses. Because the Capitol COVID precautions still remain in place, this event will look a little different from previous years.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Registration will begin at the JW Marriott at 11:00 a.m. When you pick up your registration packet, you will receive a complete schedule and other materials.

The first official event of the Washington Presentation will be the Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award luncheon. Following the luncheon, the NSBA delegation will talk policy in a briefing on our 2022 priority issues, followed by a panel discussion featuring key policy experts on the State of Small Business. We also expect to hear from Administration Officials on the key priorities for small business and the economy in the coming months.

Finally, the delegation will head to the Library of Congress for a reception in Madison Hall. This is your time to network with other small-business leaders as well as various Hill staff and hear from Members of Congress who will be invited.

Thursday, Sept. 15

Kicking off our day on Thursday will be our Regional Roundtables and Breakfast. You will hear from policy thought leaders on what is likely ahead as the midterm election heats up, as well as what’s likely to happen in the months following the election. You will also get the opportunity to meet and get to know the delegates from your state.

Next, NSBA leadership will provide an advocacy training to walk you through how to lobby your lawmakers and build the relationships that your business needs. Finally, NSBA will host two concurrent sessions on contracting and the Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) program. You can hear from contracting experts who will answer your questions about starting, growing and sustaining federal contracts; or you can talk with other small-business innovators about the importance of the SBIR program and next steps in reauthorizing the program.

Finally, you can set out on Capitol Hill to attend any legislative meetings you’ve scheduled. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, individuals are now required to have a staff escort inside all Capitol buildings—including all House and Senate office buildings. We recommend you schedule meetings after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

We will be reaching out soon with more detailed guidelines on how to schedule those meetings.

The attire for the two-day meeting is business dress. The temperature in Washington during this time usually ranges from the mid-70s to mid-80s. You will be walking quite a bit throughout the two days, so we encourage you to pack comfortable walking shoes and/or plan for a taxi or other rideshare service.
