March 16, 2016
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recently announced that the federal government had, for the first time ever, achieved its five percent contracting goal with women-owned small businesses. The total contracting dollars for FY 2015 amounted to $17.8 billion spent with U.S. women-owned small businesses.
“Last fiscal year the federal government awarded its highest percentage of contracting dollars to small businesses in the history of the United States, totaling more than $90 billion.” said SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet. “Those resources supported more than half a million jobs in communities across this country.”
Additionally, the federal government surpassed its overall 23 percent small-business contracting goal for the third year in a row, awarding 25.75 percent, according to SBA data, which amounts to a total of $90.7 billion, in federal contracts to small businesses.
