Michael Canty Recognized as Finalist for Advocate of the Year AwardMarch 18, 2013

Washington, D.C. – NSBA has named Michael Canty, Owner, President and CEO of Alloy Bellows & Precision Welding, Inc., in Cleveland, Ohio as one of its outstanding finalists for the 2013 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award. Canty was recognized alongside four other small-business owners representing various industries from across the country. The award ceremony took place on Monday, March 18 in Washington, D.C.
“Michael is a tireless advocate for small business and I am proud to count him among the nation’s top small-business advocates,” stated NSBA President Todd McCracken. “He has been outspoken on the need for regulatory reform and tax simplification, and has been an outspoken champion for the small-business community.”
Canty’s passion for political activism began back in the mid-1970s where he began volunteering and aligning himself with pro-business and pro-growth candidates. He held various political party offices and throughout the following two decades remained active when in 1998 he was elected a Village Councilman and then Mayor from 2000 to 2008 of Bentleyville, Ohio.
Canty continues to be extremely active on the local and state level and currently serves on the board at the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) in Cleveland, Ohio, and was selected as a member of the Governor’s Small Business Advisory Committee. He is a highly respected and well known advocate on small-business issues throughout Ohio, and makes routine lobbying visits with lawmakers as well as remaining active in various political campaigns. In addition to countless hours advocating on small-business issues, Canty responsible for turning around his company, which he took over in 2006, and doing so in the face of great economic turmoil

NSBA also recognized: Raymond Arth of Phoenix Products, Inc. who was named the overall award winner, Dr. Raymond Jardine, Jr. of Native Hawaiian Veterans, LLC, Socorro Harvey of NVision Solutions and John Hexter of Hexter Consulting.
