Washington, D.C. – The National Small Business Association (NSBA) applauds the Senate’s confirmation today of Maria Contreras-Sweet as the next Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Ms. Contreras-Sweet brings with her a strong background in business lending and will serve SBA’s core competencies well.
“The SBA provides many critical resources for America’s small businesses, from lending programs to technical assistance to federal contracting support,” stated NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken. “It is high time the SBA have a permanent, Senate-confirmed Administrator to move the agency forward.”
Contreras-Sweet’s lending background includes stints serving as president and co-founder of Fortius Holdings, and most recently as founder and CEO of ProAmerica Bank, a Latino-owned community bank located in Los Angeles. In addition to her finance background, she formerly served as the Secretary of the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
“In a town where even the smallest progress can take months, I’m pleased that the Senate moved expeditiously on Contreras-Sweet’s nomination, and I look forward to working with her as the new SBA Administrator,” said McCracken.
