Washington Presentation: What’s Ahead for Next Week

March 8, 2013

pic-whitehouseNext week, NSBA will hold its annual Small Business Washington Presentation on March 18-19 in Washington, D.C. This event provides NSBA members with a host of opportunities to discuss policy with lawmakers and their staff, get the inside scoop on the key issues facing small business, and attend a high-level White House Briefing. Below is a look-ahead for what’s in store.

On Monday, March 18, the Washington Presentation will kick off with the Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award Presentation and Luncheon. At this luncheon, we will recognize the five finalists and announce for the first time the overall award winner.  The delegation will then hear from keynote luncheon speaker, the Honorable Jim Nussle. As a former Chair of the House Budget Committee (2001-2007) and Director of the Office of Management and Budget (2007 – 2009) under President George W. Bush, Nussle will share his unique insight on the deficit discussions and likelihood of long-term tax reform.

Following the luncheon, the NSBA delegation will attend a high-level White House Briefing* where we will hear from a host of administration officials on key small-business issues. Following that briefing, NSBA is hosting a reception for attendees and various other friends of small business.

The next day, Tuesday, March 19, attendees will head up to the Capitol for a Congressional Breakfast where we will hear from a host of lawmakers, including: Sens. Heidi Heitkamp (North Dakota) and Al Franken (Minnesota) and Reps. Richard Hanna (New York), Tom Rice (South Carolina), Jo Bonner (Alabama), David Schweikert (Arizona), Scott Tipton (Colorado), Chellie Pingree (Maine), and Bill Owens (New York).

Following the breakfast, the delegation will set out for their lobbying visits with their lawmakers’ offices, where they will discuss key issues of importance to their small business and urge lawmakers to address NSBA’s key priorities.

Please stay tuned for a detailed wrap-up of the 2013 Washington Presentation.

*Space for the White House Briefing is extremely limited and on a first-come-first-serve basis. NSBA members do not have to attend the full Washington Presentation to participate in the White House Briefing, but you must contact Rosa Wright at 202-552-2907 in order to get your name on the list.
